EOR & Payroll Providers in Japan
An employer of record (EOR) employs your Japan team on your behalf: employment contracts, payroll, and social insurance run through the provider while you manage the work. Companies use one to hire in Japan before a local entity exists, or instead of opening one. Payroll providers handle pay, withholding, and filings for teams employed by your own entity.
Operating models differ between providers. Some employ through their own Japanese entity, others through local partners; each profile shows what the provider itself publishes, alongside the registry facts we checked.
Common Questions
Are these rankings?
No. Providers are listed alphabetically. AirTA never scores, ranks, or prioritizes providers, and no provider can pay for position.
Do I need an EOR or my own entity?
An EOR gets you a compliant employee in Japan quickly without an entity, at a monthly fee per employee. Your own entity costs more up front but scales better and is usually the destination once a team grows. Many companies start with an EOR and migrate employees to their entity later.
